Jacob Light is a contemporary wildlife and animal artist based on the Isle of Wight, England.

Working predominantly in fine line ink on paper, Jacob creates detailed drawings that explore the character, presence, and quiet individuality of animals. His work is informed by close observation and personal encounters with wildlife and animals in his local surroundings, as well as experiences gathered through travel.

Living on the Isle of Wight — surrounded by sea, cliffs, ancient woodland, and open countryside — the natural environment plays a central role in shaping his practice. Jacob is particularly drawn to the use of line to create light, form, and atmosphere, with influences drawn from natural history illustration, etchings, woodcuts, and engravings.

Alongside realism and technical detail, Jacob’s work often carries a symbolic undercurrent. Through the depiction of animals, he explores ideas of vulnerability, resilience, and aspects of the human condition, allowing viewers to form quiet, personal connections with each piece.

Jacob studied Illustration, Painting, and Drawing at Falmouth University of the Arts and is an Associate Member of the International Society of Animal Artists.
